Are You Utilizing Coconut Oil to its FULL Effect for Your Pets?

The benefits of coconut oil are not to be passed up.  This is another superfood packed with incredible nutrients.  We can benefit from the consumption of coconut oil as much as the four-legged members of our families.

There are hundreds of ways to use coconut oil!  But for now, we’re just talking about our pets and how it can enrich their lives and their health.  Here are just a few:

  • Its antifungal, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties protect against illnesses and disease. Coconut oil has even been found to help treat Staph infection!
  • Coconut oil is the food richest in lauric acid, a component also linked to cancer prevention. It is the highest naturally occurring source of lauric acid with over 40%!
  • Because coconut oil is nearly 90% saturated fat, it is easily and quickly absorbed. It also aids in the absorption of other minerals, nutrients and vitamins as well.  Adding ½ teaspoon for every 10lbs of body weight to your pet’s food once per day can help them get the most from their normal food.
  • Coconut oil is great for thyroid function, providing a gentle and steady increase to the metabolism. This is great for older dogs who could use a natural energy boost.  And, for those pets who have a little around the middle to loose, adding coconut oil can aid in weight loss.
  • In the wild, our pets’ diets would consist largely of saturated fats from the raw meat consumed. Coconut oil can help replace those fats missing normal meals.  This will help with digestion issues, such as constipation, diarrhea, hairballs, and vomiting.
  • The added fats from coconut oil will also make your cat or dog’s coat shiny and soft. It’s great for dry skin, skin irritations such as hot spots, and can help speed the healing of cuts and wounds, when applied topically.
  • Dip the teeth of your pet’s comb in coconut oil before running it through their fur for a natural flea repellent. Add a few drops of essential oils to the coconut oil for longer lasting effects.

Pure, or virgin, coconut oil is the best for consumption and will provide the many nutrients, vitamins and minerals that processing can destroy.  Start by adding small amounts to your pet’s food and gradually increase the amount to the proper dose for their weight.
